Napaljarri (Virginia) was born at Granites before the gold miners arrived. This was while the old people were still living in the area living off the land. Later when she was about 4 or 5 her family moved to Lajamanu (then called Hooker Creek). Her grandfather and fathers country is Chilla Well. This is the stories she paints about. Virginia’s first medium was ochre on the body, with oils for ceremony for her son and grandsons. Her husband now is Ronnie Jakamarra Lawson a noted Lajamanu artist.
