Lena Mayiyi Ngurruwuthun

My name is Lena Mayiyi Ngurruwuthun. My father is the late Bidarrk Wanapuyngu and my mother is the late Dorothy Nimadjurru Nugudalpuyngu from Baykurrtji. I was married to the law man and painter John Gambali Ngurruwuthun. I lived with him in Yirrkala and we had two boys and one girl. He taught me to paint my mother’s designs about the freshwater meeting the saltwater. After his death I moved back to Gapuwiyak and I still use his surname Ngurruwuthun. I also paint the story for Baygurrtji, my mothers country.
