Desma Mengil
Waringarri Aboriginal ArtsDesma started painting when she was young after watching her grandmother and her uncle from Kalumburu paint. “He is the one I remember. He showed me how to do boab carving and that’s how I started. I also learnt from the elders Paddy Carlton and Peter Newry. I first began painting dreaming animals but now I am painting Country – Bucket Springs and Revolver Springs mainly as well as bush tucker. Now that my kids have grown up I am getting back into making art. I enjoy painting, it helps with the stress. I have started making bush jewellery too.”
