Kathleen created this painting after some Art Centre excursions when the women and girls travelled out on Gurindji Country. This painting tells a story of the kajirri (old women) as they sat with the young girls and young women, teaching them traditional song and ceremony. The “U shapes” represent the old women as they sit in a small group around the fire, talking, singing and preparing paint up for the women’s dance ceremony.
The Gurindji women were proud to travel to some special places on Country so that they can teach their cultural knowledge to the younger generations.

Karungkarni Art is located in a very remote region and we are unable to ship directly from our community. We deliver to Darwin and then by Australia Post or Courier. Please allow 2-3 weeks to receive your delivery.

Refunds will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
It is important to us that you are happy with your purchase, if not we will refund/exchange the value of the artwork, minus the freight costs. Refunds and exchanges are not available for change of mind. Please choose carefully, and check your order details before completing your purchase.
Karungkarni Art and Culture Return policy
You must notify Karungkarni Art within 10 days of receiving the artwork to request a refund or exchange. You need only pay the cost of returning the artwork to us. The artwork must be returned in its original condition with all of its accompanying documentation for the guarantee to apply. When the artwork is received, you will receive your refund/exchange credit.
