In the remote APY lands, beloved mutukas are always traversing the endless red dirt tracks. The glittering and the rusted can be seen tackling the rugged off-road terrain and cruising through the streets of community. The travellers inside may be going to visit family afar, heading out hunting for perentie, or are perhaps on their way to the local waterhole for a swim with the tji tji (children) during the relentless summer heat.

Artists have drawn straight from the source in the making of these sculptures, weaving in scrap metal salvaged from the Amata car graveyard. These uniquely worn fragments, along with native tjanpi (grass) and hand-dyed raffia, come together to create a charming resemblance of the often weathered, grumbling and exceptionally robust desert-dwelling vehicles.
