Kiti is a resin extracted from a specific species of spinifex or Acacia plant (Triodia pungens and Acacia minyura)

The plant material is threshed on a hard surface before being sifted to separate the crystals or powder. When heated it darkens and softens and the resulting resin hardens as it cools. The kiti can be reheated and moulded to various forms and applied to tools as a binding much like a super glue.

Most hunting and working implements benefit from the use of spinifex resin or gum. It is a crucial ingredient in spear-making, as the head and barb were often fastened onto the shaft using this resin (hafting) or for repairs. The traditional club and spear thrower have

a hand grip made from kiti which in turn holds in place a quartz fragment used as a cutting blade.

It is also used on women’s bowls to increase their depth for water bearing and to reinforce and repair cracks.
