This print depicts a scene at Yalata and within the Garaŋarri (flood plain/wetland) of the Dhudi-Djapu clan near their Dhuruputjpi homeland, where many wayin (birds) inhabit and fly above these waters.
The birds are Gurrumaṯtji (magpie goose), ḏaŋgultji (brolga) and muthali (ducksl). The plants growing within are dhatam (waterlily), depicted in the print as the larger bulbous plant with yellow leaves and turquoise bulb. The bulb can be peeled and eaten raw.
The large turquoise plants are gunga (pandanus) and the surrounding white design is the dying leaves of the pandanus tree.
The other plants growing about the waters are bewiya (grass growing in the paperbark swamps) and wetland bullrush, represented in the print as the plant with yellow dots.
The smaller plants with turquoise dots are räkay (water reed or sedge – its corm [root portions] can be eaten).
Flying within the scene is bonba (butterfly)
The footprints throughout are the marks made in the mud by the ḏaŋgultji as it walks from waterhole to waterhole. The waterhole is depicted by the round shape with spike marks on the outer edges.
The bäru (crocodile) is approaching the bird that is resting on the water surface.
The smaller lily design is ṉi’ṉdan’ – a young water lily.
