The painting on this work depicts the sacred goanna Djarrka identified as Marrakulu. This is Mertens Water Monitor Varanus Mertensi. The hollow log of Gadayka cut down by the Ancestral Sugerbag Man named Wuyal washed down the Gurka’wuy River and into Trial Bay. The opening stanzas of manikay (sacred song) for some Marrakulu ceremony tell of the Djarrka and the Log washing back to shore at Gurka’wuy (Djarrkawuy) on the incoming tide. The original Djuwany people having arrived. The miny’tji depicts the mix of both the freshwaters of the Gurka’wuy river and the saltwaters of Trial Bay. The lines of dots adorning the Djerrka, Djarrwit and the Log has reference to the life force behind the Marrakulu in the form of native honey and the flower of the stringy bark, the dots in the miny’tji again the same life force as bubbles created by the activity of Djarrka in the tidal waters of Gurka’wuy.

Domestic postage is included in the sale price. Larger artworks are sent via Startrack and tracking numbers are provided. Prints and smaller items are sent via registered Australia Post. We expect a high number of sales which may cause delays with processing and packing. We thank you for your patience. From the time of collection delivery with Startrack and Australia Post takes approximately 7-10 working days. International purchases are sent via DHL and incur additional cost.
All barks are sold with a aluminium framing system allowing the work to be hung directly onto your wall. Larrakitj and carvings will not include stands or supports for display, please email [email protected] or leave a message in your sale for more information on the manufacture of larrakitj and sculpture stands or supports. All prints are sold unframed.
