Nita Yunkaporta

Wik & Kugu Arts Centre (Aurukun)

Nita Yunkaporta was born in Aurukun in 1952. She is a Wik-Mungkan artist who has exhibited in Queensland, South Australia and NSW. She began painting in 2010 and has quickly earned herself a solid reputation within the contemporary art market for her bold works. Today, Nita enjoys painting with her best friends Jean Walmbeng and Janet Koongotema.

Kencharang is a place on Nita’s Traditional Country, located on the Southern Wik Lands, on the Cape York Peninsula. Her work usually depicts this Country including the colourful wetlands that dot this region where her people have lived since the beginning of time.
