Merrilyn Rose Frith Nalyirri was born in Darwin in 1971. She grew up at Kalkarindji and went to school in Alice Springs. She attended Yirarra College and later studied art and craft at Sadadeen TAFE, where she learnt print-making and painted lanterns. She worked as an attendance officer for Kalkarindji CEC and with the CDEP program in the garden. Her grandmother, Molly Dodd, taught her how to paint. Merrilyn’s artworks represent witchetty grubs (lamawurt), Liku (Mountain Spring), the Rainbow Snake (Kurraj) and many fantasy themes incorporating intensely coloured bush flowers, underwater corals, butterflies and more.
