Louisa Cooley
Tjanpi Desert WeaversLouisa Cooley is an artist belonging to the Pitjantjatjara language and cultural group, and lives in the remote community of Amata, South Australia. Louisa’s mother’s Country is Amata, and her father’s Country is Cooper Pedy.
Louisa grew up around many Tjanpi weavers in her community of Amata, but only recently began making Tjanpi for herself. Her mother, Mrs Adamson, made beautiful baskets for many years and shared her skills with both of her daughters – Louisa and Danielle. Louisa’s grandmother was Queenie Adamson who was involved with Tjanpi in the 90’s when the social enterprise was created. Louisa took part in a skills and development workshop for the first time in 2022 and initially found weaving very difficult, but is now feeling more confident and relaxed when making. She is keen to continue developing her arts practice with Tjanpi. When Louisa visits Alice Springs she sometimes participates in ceramics workshops with Tangentyere Artists.
