Adnyamathanha / Kuyani

I am a proud Adnyamathanha and Kuyani elder.

I was born and raised on the Nepabunna Aboriginal Mission on Adnymathanha Yarta, Flinders Ranges. We lived in a brush shed and then a tin shack made of kerosene tins. We used to live on bush tucker – kangaroo meat, damper, wallabies, wild turkey. While I was in school in the mid 1950s my parents moved us to Copley where I still live today. On weekends we would go camping under the stars. We drew on rocks and in the mud. We would also make artefacts out of the mud – like boomerangs, little dishes and figures.

Now I draw animals, bush tucker, wildflowers, native plants, and landscapes on my pots as this is what I see through my eyes everyday.
