Linda Anderson Jonggarda

Linda Tjunkata Allen Anderson was born in Papunya in 1962, and is daughter of famous Papunya Tula painter and actor Nosepeg Tjunkata Tjupurrula and Mantua Napanangka, another of the early Western Desert painters. She is a respected community elder who worked for many years at Papunya School and Community Council and was the inaugural Secretary of Papunya Tjupi Arts.

Linda paints Karrkururrutintjta Tjukurrpa (Lake McDonald Dreaming), which is of a lake south-west of Kintore, NT. This story was passed on to her from her aunty Narputta Jugadai Nangala, whom she watched paint when she was a young girl, and who was the sister of Linda’s stepfather Bill Manaina Tjangala.

Linda’s painting style has been heavily influenced by the birds eye view of the landscape she saw frequently from the window of a plane when travelling between Macquarie University, Sydney and Papunya during her studies. She uses dotting to represent charred trees and grass after bushfires as well as raindrops that create muddy terrain. She uses line work to represent sections of the dried up lake and different colours for the beautiful flowers which appear after big rain. 

Her work is highly sought after and she has been exhibited widely across Australia.
