Papunya Tjupi ArtsJustin Allen Tjampitjimpa is a Pintupi man living at 5 mile outstation, Papunya. Justin grew up during the era of Pintupi people moving back to their homelands further west of Papunya and therefore has lived in Papunya, Kintore and Kiwirkurra, before finally returning to Papunya with his children. As a child Justin learnt the practice of Tjilirra (traditional tool making) from local elder Lesley Gorey. With the help of his grandson Clive Corby and Jamie Tjupurrula, Justin is often out bush teaching the young men of Papunya how to make Tjilirra.
Justin started painting in 2019 and has significantly developed his style in the last couple of years when he started painting Walpa Kurrunpa (wind spirits) for the first time. Justin is equally parts physically expressive and thoughtful in his approach to painting.
