Jemma Yibbruruana

Step daughter to Paul Nabulumo, Jemma’s style reflects her families iconic negative black backgrounds with beautifully intricate rarrk, of their djang (dreaming) from their Outstation, Yikarrakkal.

Jemma often paints Yawk Yawks (freshwater mermaids), Waterholes of Mankorlod Dird Djang (moon dreaming) and Ngalyod (rainbow serpent), all derived from her Country.

“I grew up in Maningrida. My father taught me how to paint. My favourite is Yawk Yawk and Dird.”
