Janice Walker

APY Art Centre Collective

Janice was born in Oodnadatta, South Australia and now resides in Coober Pedy.

Janice has worked caring for the Coober Pedy community with Umoona Health, Aboriginal Legal Rights around wellbeing for individuals in Correctional Services and interpretation for the Courts. Janice currently works at Coober Pedy Area School and has two children.

Janice creates her artwork after going on country to observe the landmarks, flora and fauna. Janice takes photographs to capture the colours and formations that inform her artwork.

“Caring for country provides the inspiration for my artwork. I paint because it is self-care, allows me to unwind and is a great stress relief. Coming to the Art Centre is where we connect with one another and share stories. Brainstorming with other artists helps the creative process. We all live in the same community, but are busy with our lives and work. At the Art Centre we come together, praise each other’s work and let our talent take over” – Janice Walker
