Gerarda Smiler

Born in the 1960s in Wadeye, Gerarda’s Country is Ngudaniman and her totems are the Rainbow ‘Ku Kanamkek’, fresh water crocodile ‘Ku Yekpa/Ku Tharthpi Panguy’ and the didjeridoo ‘maluk’. As the younger sister of one of Durrmu Arts leading artists, Annunciata Dartinga, and Aunty/Mum of another Durrmu Arts artist Grace Dodson there is no surprise that Gerarda is a skilled painter. Gerarda paints Durrmu designs and her totems from her Father and Mother side.
