Annie Johnson

Annie Johnson, skin name Napanangka, was born in Lajamanu, though due to government relocation policies her traditional family homelands are approximately 400 kms south. These homelands provide the inspiration for much of Napanangka’s artwork.

Following the death of her husband in 2020, Napanangka began to paint the stories of her Jukurrpa (Dreaming). She found it provided catharsis from her loss. Channelling bright colours and clear symbology, her art displays a simple sense of order and peace.
