Adrian Jurra Tjungurrayi
Papunya Tjupi ArtsAdrian Jurrah Tjungarrayi was born in Derby, Western Australia. He grew up in the remote community of Kiwirrkurra, watching his father, Tjapaltjarri Jurrah a famous Papunya Tula artist, paint his detailed Tjukurrpa. Tjapaltjarri taught his son the ancient Tingari stories and the traditinal Pintpui style of fine line work that weaves and shimmers across a canvas, Adrian’s father would take him out on Country often as a child, showing him how to hunt and find foods such as bush carrots, that Adrian depicts now. The roots coil underneath the surface of the soil, as the grass breaks ground to signify where to dig. Adrian recreates these memories in his work, digging up the stories of his ancestors told and retold over generations.
Having lived in Papunya for the past five years, Adrian has only recently started painting with Tjupi Arts. He is a passionate, hard working artist and continues to develop his own work, experimenting with colour and form to produce a unique style of his own.
