About Karungkarni Art and Culture
Karungkarni is the Child Dreaming for Gurindji people.
Karungkarni Art Centre is the cultural heart of Kalkaringi and Daguragu, remote Aboriginal communities located 480km southwest of Katherine in the upper Victoria River District of the Northern Territory. Our Art Centre strives to keep Gurindji art, language and culture strong, passing on knowledge from old to young; maintaining and revitalising language; facilitating the protection of artists’ intellectual and cultural property; and sharing our art and culture with the wider world. Karungkarni is a not-for-profit organisation, 100% owned and governed by the artists.
The founding artists are renowned for their participation in the Wave Hill Walk Off on 23 August 1966, when Vincent Lingiari led our people from Wave Hill Cattle Station, igniting the birth of Aboriginal Land Rights. Our Art Centre continues the legacy of those courageous and visionary men and women. They form the core of our enterprise, which provides economic and cultural benefits for the artists, families and community. Their artwork is a distinctive and authentic expression of traditional stories of Gurindji people.
Shipping policy
Many of our artworks are stretched onto frames. For a shipping quotation and to arrange delivery of stretched artworks, please email [email protected] and include:
- Your name, delivery address and phone number
- List of artworks purchased including Catalogue Code number
Karungkarni Art is located in a very remote region and we are unable to ship directly from our community. We deliver to Darwin and then by Australia Post or Courier. Please allow 2-3 weeks to receive your delivery.
Refund policy
Refunds will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
It is important to us that you are happy with your purchase, if not we will refund/exchange the value of the artwork, minus the freight costs. Refunds and exchanges are not available for change of mind. Please choose carefully, and check your order details before completing your purchase.
Return policy
You must notify Karungkarni Art within 10 days of receiving the artwork to request a refund or exchange. You need only pay the cost of returning the artwork to us. The artwork must be returned in its original condition with all of its accompanying documentation for the guarantee to apply. When the artwork is received, you will receive your refund/exchange credit.
