This story comes from Stone Hill Country a place called Nilipidji, out near Numbulwar in the Northern Territory. We used to have stone axe for cutting sugarbag and cutting meat – like a knife. It’s really special that stone axe and that stone. We sing that song for the stone axe and we dance that song for the country. It’s one of my totems. You never have seen a stone axe like that one before. There are black stones and yellow stones found in other places, but this place here in Stone Hill Country, this stone axe is really white and really shiny and real sharp. Today, people don’t know how to cut that blade. They used to sing that song and without that song the thing (stone axe) doesn’t work. Only the old people know how to make it, and they have passed on. It’s really special to us and the blade costs a lot of money. We sell the blade and get a lot of money for it. It’s our totem, that stone axe. It’s really secret too.
